Avant Homes launches affordable eco-friendly bungalows in Middlesbrough

Avant Homes North East unveils five new energy-efficient bungalows in Acklam, Middlesbrough, available from £160,000 under a council-backed discount market sale scheme.

Avant Homes North East has released five new two-bedroom bungalows at its £38 million development, The Avenue, in Acklam, Middlesbrough — with prices starting from £160,000 under a local authority-supported affordability scheme.

The homes form part of the 139-unit scheme, which offers a mix of two-, three- and four-bedroom energy-efficient properties. The five bungalows are available via Middlesbrough Council’s discount market sale (DMS) scheme, which enables eligible buyers to purchase homes at 20 per cent below market value while still securing 100 per cent ownership.

All five bungalows are the popular Burford house type — a semi-detached and detached layout that includes eco-conscious features such as solar panels, triple glazing, and EV charging points.

Designed with practical living in mind, the Burford includes a welcoming hallway with access to each room, a spacious double bedroom opposite a generously sized single, and a family bathroom with contemporary fittings. An open-plan kitchen with integrated appliances flows into the dining and living area, which opens onto the rear garden via French doors.

Andrew Finnigan, managing director of Avant Homes North East, said: “The Burford house type available through this initiative is an outstanding option for anyone looking to enjoy the benefits that bungalow living provides. With energy efficiency and thoughtful design at the core, these homes are a great fit for a wide range of buyers.”

Eligibility for the DMS scheme is not limited to first-time buyers, but applicants must meet local connection and income criteria, with final approval resting with Middlesbrough Council.

With rising demand for single-storey living and energy-efficient new builds, Avant Homes’ latest release is expected to attract strong interest — particularly from downsizers, key workers and buyers looking for long-term affordability.
